Young Men:Loose fitting (not low riding baggy!), light weight and light colored pants. Long sleeved, light colored button-up shirt with or without a collar. Good hiking/sport socks no shorter than crew length and sock liners to prevent blisters. Sturdy, broken-in hiking boots preferred. Wide brimmed hat with chin strap. Suspenders and vests are optional but welcome. NO denim jeans or baseball caps allowed.
Young Women:
Light weight, light colored, long (but about 3" above the ankle) skirts, with a button-up long sleeved blouse or a similar dress. Light weight pantaloons (drawers) that cover your ankles: these can be pajama pants (not flannel), or other "breathable" light weight fabric pant. Good hiking/sport socks no shorter than crew length and sock liners to prevent blisters. Apron with 2 large pockets to carry a water bottle, etc. Bonnet or wide brimmed straw hat with chin strap or tie. Sturdy, broken-in hiking boots preferred. Underclothing should also be breathable: a Polyester blend will be the most comfortable.
All participants will follow the dress code.
Because it will be hot we encourage each participant to have a neck cooler (pattern provided). I have access to some "filler" and I will distribute it through the Ward Trek Specialist. An appropriate hat is a must.
A Ward Trek Clothing Specialist will help with coordinating the sewing of skirts, pantaloons, aprons, and bonnets as needed.
Below are some attachments of possible patterns to use. There are multiple simple patterns for the skirt and bonnet so use what you are comfortable with. Please note: the ss_shorts pattern below can be lengthened for pantaloons. My favorite bonnet pattern with instructions can be accessed at howtodresslikeapioneer.blogspot.com, click on bonnets in the left side column and then scroll down to the Pioneer Bonnet tutorial. Also, for the young men, Oriental Trading Co. has adult Western hats with a tie. if you can get a group together it would be an inexpensive route to go. Please avoid the hat with the star! Have fun!
